Well, yes! You do!
When planning your wedding you may wonder if you actually NEED everything that’s expected for a wedding. The costs add up quickly and you might start to think maybe some things can be excluded. Should you really book a wedding videographer if you’ve already booked a photographer?
While your wedding day is all about YOU as a couple, it’s important to note a few things before striking items and vendors off your to-do list. Below are the top 5 questions and concerns real couples have expressed in their own wedding planning experience about the wedding photographer and/or wedding videographer debate:
While a photographer immortalizes your day in beautiful striking photos, a wedding videographer is a must to capture all the dynamic moments of the day and the things you hear as well. Think: vows, music, dancing, First Look, toasts, etc.
Photos are treasured glimpses of your wedding day and you’ll be eager to share them on social media, with friends and family, and hang them in your home. Luckily, films are also easily shared with friends and family on social media or through email. We also offer a film book which is like a coffee table book, but when you open the cover it is a portable video player!
Your photographer and videographer will likely be in the same general spaces throughout your day – after all, they’re collecting images from the important parts of your day, big and small.
However, that doesn’t mean they have to be in the same place at the same time. It also depends on how many shooters you have from each company. For instance, we bring at least two cinematographers to every wedding which allows us to get at least two views on moments of your day as well as “divide and conquer” – one may be getting some dancing and grooving footage while the other is flying the drone getting those money shots from the sky.
Assuming you’re hiring professional wedding photographers and videographers, they know what parts of your day to capture! The “biggies” – ceremony, vows, toasts, first dances, cake cutting, etc. – are obviously on their list. However, if you have something special to you or your day, be sure to communicate that with them! Are you honoring passed loved ones with a small trinket on your bouquet? Do the florals have a special meaning to you? Are there any specific dances or couples you want to capture (think: grandparents, etc.)? Don’t feel bad asking if they can capture something particular. More than likely they will be happy to oblige, as long as it is feasible!
In theory, all professionals would work well in the same space. We have never had any issues with other vendors, but I’m sure it’s happened sometime! The most important thing is to secure vendors who are focused on YOU. It’s your wedding day and you need to make sure your creative team is working with you as their number one focus. As you speak with a vendor, get a feel for them as people and as a company. You can ask about their typical day at a wedding as well as look at their portfolio. Read reviews, ask questions, and go with your gut!
Your venue may have a list of preferred vendors or some ideas or recommendations in the area (especially helpful if you are having a destination wedding). Your photographer may have a recommendation for a videographer and vice versa. Your planner, if you have one, likely has a varied group of vendors he or she has worked with in the past. There are also many wedding resource websites online. Social media is a wealth of knowledge about vendors and wedding trends and styles, too.
Regardless of where you find your photographer and videographer, make sure you are comfortable with them and that you LOVE their work! Your wedding is an investment and only happens once. You want to be sure you have gorgeous photos and videos to remember the day and share for years to come.
